EXPANDING THE VISION...
At Malibu United Methodist Church, we believe that meaningful change happens through connection. By partnering with organizations near and far, we extend our reach, deepen our impact, and respond more thoughtfully to the needs of our community and the world beyond.
From local initiatives supporting our Malibu neighbors, to regional collaborations rooted in inclusion and sustainability, to global efforts providing relief in times of crisis, each partnership reflects a shared commitment: to care, to serve, and to act with purpose.
Together, we are able to do more — and to do it better.
Located on the Malibu United Methodist Church campus, Shemesh Farms is a small herb farm with a big impact. Built on values of inclusion, sustainability, and connection, it offers meaningful employment, hands-on programming, and a sense of belonging to adults with diverse abilities.
On campus, hydroponic towers and growing spaces are part of daily life — visible reminders of a shared commitment to care for both people and the environment. But beyond what is grown, it is what happens around the work that truly matters.
Participants, families, volunteers, and community members come together in a space filled with warmth, creativity, and genuine joy. Beneath a mural reading “Cultivating gratitude,” they create colorful prayer flags, each carrying messages of empathy, peace, and encouragement.
Music often fills the space. As familiar songs are shared, something shifts — people sway, smile, and connect in ways that go beyond words. For some participants, including those who are non-verbal, these moments become powerful expressions of joy and presence. A simple smile, a shared rhythm, a glance — and suddenly, it is clear that what is happening here is more than an activity. It is belonging.
Moments like these reflect the heart of Shemesh Farms: a place where people are welcomed as they are, where relationships grow naturally, and where small acts of care ripple outward. Through this partnership, we are reminded that community is not just something we build — it is something we practice, together.

Malibu Community Assistance Resource Team (C.A.R.T.) was founded in 2015 by long time Malibu resident and activist, Carol Moss and MUMC former Pastor, Reverend Sandy Liddell, in response to the growing local homeless epidemic. C.A.R.T.’s mission is to help stabilize the homeless, where possible, and help connect these individuals with available services, with the belief that this will benefit the broader community while lessening the suffering of all involved.
Malibu C.A.R.T. became a 501 (c) 3 in 2017 and has grown as an extraordinary community-based team of volunteers helping the entire Malibu community, including the homeless and many in need.
